Reflections

March 16th, 2007 by Brandt Montgomery. Popularity: 14%.

For all of our older (but still wise) alumni brothers, they may remember the famous “Reflections…” articles, written by Executive Vice President emeritus George Spasyk, that would appear at the beginning of every issue of The Cross & Crescent.  For my post, I will be writing along the same lines as Brother Spasyk, offering current reflections in which I have been pondering on during these last few weeks.

In exactly 50 days from today, I will be graduating from the University of Montevallo, the legislatively-mandated small public liberal arts college of the state of Alabama, with the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.  Over the last few weeks, with my graduation looming closer and closer with each passing day, I have been reflecting and pondering about how my life is about to take a completely new turn come May 5th.  While going through my reflections, several realizations came to mind that brought about a sense of sadness.  One big realization that came to mind was that for the first time in four years, I will not be participating as a candidate in Montevallo’s SGA general elections and that I will be handing over the helm of presidential authority to a new SGA president within the next four weeks.  But the biggest realization that came to mind was that in the next 50 days, my days as an active undergraduate brother of Lambda Chi Alpha will be coming to an end and that I will make the official transition into active alumni life.

I am sure that all other senior graduating brothers, who are about to make the same transition as I am, knows and feels exactly the same way in which I am feeling at this current point in time.  Ever since the beginning of this spring semester, I couldn’t help but to think and reflect on how positive my experiences in Lambda Chi Alpha have been,on how much it has greatly benefited me, and on how the traditions, principles, and beliefs of our great Fraternity have helped shape me into a more responsible, hard-working, self-confident man.  During these times of recollection, I always consider myself extremely grateful for the opportunities Lambda Chi Alpha gave me in helping me show forth my true potential.

I will always be thankful to my brothers of the Sigma-Epsilon Zeta for allowing me to serve them as High Gamma, High Beta, High Iota, High Sigma, and High Alpha.  I will also be eternally thankful to the General Fraternity staff and the entire Brotherhood for allowing me the opportunity to serve as a member of the Student Advisory Committee for two consecutive one-year terms.  The positive experiences and life lessons that have been so graciously and generously given to me over these last four years have very much so spurred my zeal to continue to be involved in Lambda Chi Alpha as an active alumni brother.

Even though I am going to be greatly sad to leave the University of Montevallo upon graduation, I am very much looking forward to life thereafter as an alumni brother of Lambda Chi Alpha.  It is a life of involvement and continued action in which I greatly look forward to and will, without a doubt, fully enjoy.
