Preaching about. . . well. . .

March 3rd, 2008 by Glen Alan Graham. Popularity: 20%.

Yesterday I got to preach at one of my churches.  (I belong to two, in the other I sing in the choir, but at this one the Pastor allows or asks me to deliver the sermon occasionally.)

As always when I know I’ll be preaching on a given Sunday, my first step was to consult the Lectionary readings for then.  And the Epistle reading leapt out at me.  It’s Ephesians 5:8-14, where St. Paul wrote about former darkness and present light.  Well, you Brothers who have been thru Initiation know the ritual significance of such a topic! I am looking for alumni in the Richmond, VA or Washington DC area. Does anyone have the contact info for associations in those areas? Thanks!

New Braunfels and Beyond!…

February 8th, 2008 by Jon Wood. Popularity: 23%.

I’m going to try to get into the habit of posting to at least 1 of my dozen different blogs each day over the next few weeks…

First, a little update on my life as of the past 6 months (since my post on my return from Memphis and being swept up in True Brotherhood)… I came back, I told what I had learned, I championed the cause, and the result? I got a few small things implemented but more or less it was business as usual for my chapter…

The big energy expenditure for me last semester was our First Annual Alumni Homecoming Banquet (I know, it should be “Inaugural” but the invitations were already printed by the time that was pointed out to me!)… anyway, that dominated my life, tanked my grades, and gave me no end of stress (that is until it was over and I celebrated by drinking libations to a near-comatose state… I’m happy to say I learned a lesson and that was the last time I’ve done that!)… Read the rest of this story »

Omega Financial For Alumni Organizations

December 4th, 2007 by Kevin Piket. Popularity: 39%.

The men of Phi-Alpha Zeta at Eastern Illinois University have hired Omega Financial to work with our alumni board on raising funds, creating a new website and managing our alumni newsletter. We are in the beginning stages of this process and so far I am very impressed in what they have done. We contacted some chapters before we signed our agreement that currently use this organization and they swear by them. Our goal is raise money to help fund our various scholarships and our alumni board operations for various events.

I wanted to see if any other chapters have used Omega in this role as it was new to me. Our undergraduate chapter has used them for many years now and it has been a very successful relationship. Our chapter finances are in great shape and Omega is a big part of that. If your alumni chapter is using Omega now, I would like to hear about your experience. Please let us know. Thanks!

Giving Thanks…

November 20th, 2007 by Art Hebbeler. Popularity: 78%.

It’s that time of year again, at least here in the States (our Canadian brothers celebrated Thanksgiving last month), and we turn our thoughts to giving thanks. Well, at least we should be doing that. The reality is that our current focus rests on one or more of the following (in no particular order):

  • Preparing for final exams
  • Finding a post-graduation job
  • Seeing the parents and family
  • Eating too much turkey
  • Watching too many football games
  • Getting up WAY too early to fight WAY too big crowds on Black Friday Read the rest of this story »
