With the new year approaching, this is a time for reflection on the past and a time to plan for the future. I am sure that most chapters are in the process of transitioning from the old leadership to new leadership. This is always an exciting time as you get to learn from past mistakes and create a new vision for the future. When creating that vision, remember not to say “that is the way we have always done it” or “we have never done it this way before” as those two sayings will only hurt your chapter in the long run. Being an advocate of change is good thing as long as it is appropriate and will help improve the future of your chapter.

When planning for the new year, see how you can involve your alumni brothers. Utilizing the resources of your alumni brothers can only help improve your chapter. If you do not have active alumni from your chapter, contact the Headquarters and find the alumni brothers from other chapters in your area and see if they are willing to help. It is a fact that chapters with positive alumni support are successful. You have a lot of alumni brothers from all over wanting to help you, so please tap into that unlimited resource and use it to help your chapter.

Overall, the new year will bring new ideas, new members and new chances to succeed for your chapter. It is how you handle all of these new things that will determine your level of success. Good luck and have a Happy New Year!
