A New Rho

October 3rd, 2006 by Jon Wood. Popularity: 9%.

Since this is my first post as a new author, I figure a little introduction might be appropriate. My name is Jon Wood, I’m a biology/pre-med student at the University of Tulsa and until less than a year ago, only a so-so active member in my chapter.

Since taking on the office of Rho, however, I’ve been inspired to do as much as I can to help the house grow. Many of the “problems” I had with the house in the past have been rectified and I now say proudly that I am a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Yes, I am one of those “uppity-types” who get annoyed when it’s referred to as a “frat.” Calling my house a “frat” takes away the main purpose why I’m involved in the first place. For me, being in a fraternity is about the brotherhood. After all, my school is a wet campus so people can party just about anywhere.

It’s with these things in mind that I first ran for, and easily won, the not-so-recently-deceased office of High Rho. We’ve had Rho’s for the past 5 years, they just never did much. Pause for bragging In my first semester as Rho, I set up an alumni newsletter (with the help of a 3rd party publishing company) as well as began working on setting up alumni events (I’m happy to report we had around 30 alums attend our homecoming festivities). Speaking of which, due to recent inactivity I have almost no ideas for alumni events that will actually draw brothers back to the house, any ideas posted here would be vastly appreciated.

Well, that’s about enough for my first posting, I’ll keep blogging as things develop.

    Brother Jon,

Good luck as High Rho. You’re off to a great start! That was the first office I ever held. Based on that, who knows what your future holds.

    Brother Jon,

I too am a member of Epsilon Upsilon Zeta a Tulsa U. One thing that frustrates me is that there is virtually nothing written about our chapter. I do not know if the chapter is active or not. When I was there, we won the scholarship tropy for the 18th straight year. (That kind of tells you how old I am)

I would really like to hear what is going on at TU, and at the fraternity house.

    Brother Ernest,
It’s great to hear from you… If you’d like me to, I can send you an email with our summer publication of the EY Update attached, as well as let you know about what we’re currently working on… I understand your frustration and the lack of chapter news in the C&C is something that I have on my agenda to remedy. As I mentioned in my post, I’m more-or-less trying to restart the entire office of Rho… If you’d like to contact me directly with comments or concerns, my email is jon-wood@utulsa.edu

    Thanks,
    Jon Wood
