Get Ready for Kickoff

The Indianapolis staff is excited to have the Colts play in the Super Bowl just two days from now. So much so, the editorial staff of the Cross & Crescent pulled together two feature stories that are football related.

Super Bowl V Hero

The last time the Colts were in the Super Bowl, they won thanks to a game-winning field goal kick made by Jim O’Brien (Cincinnati 1970). It’s always exciting to have a Lambda Chi play in a Super Bowl, but kicking a winning field goal is pretty cool. Way to go Jim.

Telling Marshall’s Story

If you haven’t seen the movie “We are Marshall” yet, I recommend it. It’s story about a 1970 college football team that lost 75 of its players and staff when their plane crashed. There are three LCA connections to this movie/story:

  1. Muddy Waters (Elon 1993) was the film’s second assistant director, the third name listed in the films’ credits.
  2. Don Gillman (Marshall 1972) was a trainer for the team and was not on the plane.
  3. Thomas Feeley (Marshall 1975) was the first kicker for the rebuilt team.

If you like the film, we think you’ll really enjoy this story now that you know how Lambda Chis were involved.

One Response to “Get Ready for Kickoff”

  1. Bob Dorado Says:

In addition to these three connections, there was a brother on the team and on the plane, Marcelo Lajterman.
