Phase Zero for lambdachi.org
February 19th, 2006 by Jason Pearce. Popularity: 10%.It’s been a busy 1.5 months for our IT department. After completing a two-week vacation in South America, things at work ramped up on day 1, 2006.
Cross & Crescent (Jan 2)
On Jan 1, Chris Barrick and I burn the midnight oil as we put the finishing touches on the January C&C in time for launch on January 2.
C&C PodCast (Jan 2)
The January issue of the C&C was also the launch of the podcast version. Brother Fuzz Martin (Wisconsin-Whitewater 2001) volunteers his time to produce the audio version of the magazine for us each month.
Replaced Server Rack (Jan 3)
We bought a Dell rack off of eBay that Joe picked up over break. The IT team pulled out the old rack, installed the new rack, and rewired the networking closest. Look at well organized and clean those wires are.
Installed a VOIP System (Jan 6)
In an effort to improve our phone services, we dumped our 10-year old Legend equipment and adopted a VOIP ShoreTel system. Best of all, the new system costs the same as our old service contract and is much easier to administer.
Installed Bonded Demarc (Jan 13)
We previously had one T1 dedicated to voice and one T1 dedicated to data. With the new VOIP system, we were able to bond three T1s together for a combined 4.5mbps of data. Since we’ll be soon hosting our website in house, we needed the improved bandwidth.
Cross & Crescent (Feb 2)
Somehow, we managed to launch the February issue of the C&C on time once again. This one had a fun story on smoots, a person and a unit of measure.
lambdachi.org Hosted at Founders Rd (Feb 18)
We are now hosting our website in house, completing Phase 0 of our lambdachi.org redesign. Most of the IT tasks mentioned above were leading up to this moment. The task required building a hardware and software platform to host internally, improving security, modifying some pages to access our new iMIS database, and much more.
