Edgewater 2007

January 25th, 2007 by Ed Leonard. Popularity: 12%.

Two weeks ago, Bill Farkas, George Spasyk, and I attended this year’s Edgewater Conference.  Edgewater is an annual conference of 16 fraternities and 14 sororities that has been in existence since 1952.  During the two-day conference, the participants listened to three panels of current issues from students, alumni/ae advisors, and Greek advisors.  We also discussed current issues in small groups and enjoyed the opportunity to network with our fellow Greek-letter brothers and sisters.

As Bill and I compared notes from Edgewater, we both observed the recurring issues of upperclass programming and alumni advising, among others.  We both concluded that Lambda Chi Alpha is heading in the right direction with the development of the True Brother initiative and our placing a high priority on every chapter having a High Pi.  While we may be overly optimistic about the potential of True Brother, we both believe that in 2-3 years, when the initiative is fully rolled-out, beginning at next summer’s Leadership Seminar, Lambda Chi Alpha will again be front and center as the programmatic and innovative leader of the Greek-letter world.

Some of the other issues that were covered include: Facebook/MySpace, the millennial generation, hazing, government relations, and recruitment.  Some of these, I think, are discussed every year, while a few are new.
