Off & Running …

October 30th, 2006 by Ed Leonard. Popularity: 5%.

This past weekend the Grand High Zeta met.  It was my first meeting as Grand High Alpha.  I thought, overall, the weekend and the numerous meetings associated with it went very well.  Building on the committee system established by our 21st Grand High Alpha, Ted Grossnickle, this GHZ is overseeing and carrying out its work through four committees: Chapter Development, Marketing & Communications, Board Development, and Finance & Audit.  The committees took plenty of time over the weekend to review their charge, to get organized, and to plan their work to achieve the expected outcomes for the next two years.

Also this weekend, the new Student Advisory Committee met and elected their chairman and vice chairman.  These brothers, by virture of those positions, serve on the Grand High Zeta as Grand High Sigma and Grand High Theta, respectively.  They are Nick Walker, California-Riverside, and Brett Baker, East Tennessee.  We have a very impressive group of 10 brothers who form the Student Advisory Committee and they have laid out some ambitious plans for themselves for the next year.  I wish them well and stand ready to help.

The GHZ meets next in January.  We are going to take some time at that meeting to step back and spend some quality time reflecting on strategic issues.  This weekend drove home the point that Lambda Chi Alpha has turned the corner.  We can now move from surviving to thriving.  And thriving is exactly what we have in mind over the next few years.  There are some exciting new initiatives in the planning and testing stages.

Quite simply, this Grand High Zeta and Student Advisory Committee are off and running.

Hey, Brother Ed! Wow! I had NO IDEA when I met you at the San Antonio, Texas, Founders Day barbecue early this year, that I was looking at the next Grand High Alpha!

Congratulations! May our Lord grant you all the light you may need as you guide our Brotherhood during your service as GHA. And if you ever make it back here to “deep in the heart of Texas”, please give me a call.

    Sincerely yours, in ZAX,
