Go Blue!

September 25th, 2006 by Ed Leonard. Popularity: 3%.

Last weekend I was the guest of Sigma Zeta at the University of Michigan for a football weekend against the University of Wisconsin.  Bill Farkas, Executive Vice President, and George Spasyk, Executive Vice President Emeritus and Sigma alumnus, were also in attendance.  The three of us were joined by seven brothers and associates for dinner on Friday night.  The football game was on Saturday.

Greek life at Michigan has fallen are some hard times over the last decade and our chapter has not dodged the bullet.  Sigma was closed in the mid-90’s and re-chartered a few years ago.  They have about 30 in the chapter right now.  I was very impressed with the quality of the brothers I met.  If they are able to convert that quality into an accompanying quantity, then the award-winning chapter I knew in the 70’s and 80’s can’t be far behind.  Not to sound cliche, but the potential runs very high at Sigma.  But, of course, taking action and making things happen are where potential ends and reality begins.  There is a good group of alumni working with the chapter, and that’s always a plus.

Good luck Sigma in your year ahead.  You are part of a rich heritage and many brothers are pulling for you.  The hard work is up to you.  Go Blue!

Thank you, Ed, for such a confident review. Your visit was only marred by a single lacking element–it was too short. Please feel welcome at Sigma anytime you please (call ahead so we can dust). Next time you visit, we should have those numbers up!

    With peace and honor,
