Farewell and Godspeed
August 11th, 2006 by Ed Leonard. Popularity: 4%.This week I had the pleasure to attend a special Fraternity dinner in Indianapolis hosted by our Executive Vice President, Bill Farkas. The dinner had two purposes: (1) to say farewell to Rob Walker who is leaving the staff as Director of Development for the Educational Foundation to start law school this fall and (2) to say safe travels to the Educational Leadership Consultants as they begin their fall itineraries.
This was not the first time I’ve attended this long-standing tradition of the Lambda Chi Alpha staff, since I had the honor of serving on the staff for five years. It was, however, my first as Grand High Alpha.
Of course, while all wished Rob well, the main focus of the dinner was on the consultants. For the first year consultants, it was the recognition their training - the best in the fraternity world - has ended and now the job begins. For the second year consultants, they can finally get out of Indy and back to the job they do best.
As a fraternity, we never say enough about the hard work of being an ELC. Additionally, we never say enough about how important the ELC is to the future of our Fraternity. Over the next school year, each consultant will visit between 50-55 chapters/colonies. They will touch the lives, directly and indirectly, of approximately 2,200 brothers and associates. The job of the ELC is very hard work. The job is not for everyone. It requires a lot of courage, compassion, and conviction.
The job is also critically important to the future of Lambda Chi Alpha. The ELC, along with the High Pi, is where we will get traction to build a better, stronger, bigger Lambda Chi Alpha. I am honored that this year ten brothers have chosen to give the next year of their lives to our Fraternity as an ELC. If our chapters, officer, and brothers will now welcome them as brothers and work with them as professionals, our Fraternity will become better, stronger, bigger.
