Grand High Zeta Meeting - Nov 2005
December 9th, 2005 by Ed Leonard. Popularity: 3%.The weekend before Thanksgiving, the Grand High Zeta met for its fall meeting. This year, as we work through the transition of Bill Farkas as our new Executive Vice President, the GHZ decided to meet in August, November, January (with the Council of Presidents), and June. Since this is an important time in Lambda Chi Alpha, I certainly supported the additional meeting. (We usually meet three times a year.)
I know first hand that the first year of a new CEO (EVP for Lambda Chi or President for a college/university) is absolutely critical to long-term success and this transitional year is even more critical to the future of Lambda Chi Alpha given our challenges the last few years.
Bill and his staff presented the GHZ with good material for our review and approval. For the first time in the seven years I’ve been on the GHZ, I believe I’m seeing the GHZ and the staff starting to work as partners. The entire staff is to be complimented on the extra-ordinary effort they have put forth this semester in handling the emergency situations while, at the same time, planning our future for the next 12 months in an Operational Plan entitled, “The Journey Begins.” An apt description as we begin the Farkas era in Lambda Chi Alpha.
As is frequently the case, at this meeting we had to wrestle with some tough issues and set priorities (we can’t do it all), but we may finally be seeing light at the end of the tunnel — and it’s not an on-coming train. The Fraternity’s technology is cutting edge … every chapter but one received a visit from Chapter Services this fall (a first in several years) … chapter feedback on the ELC’s is the best in years … recruitment is up slightly … the plan for the January brotherhood retreat look exciting … planning for the Fraternity’s Centennial celebration in 2009 are well underway … the new SAC is developing their agenda for the year … the journey is truly just beginning.
