Not for 4 years but for life

My job requires a considerable amount of travel and I’m always on the lookout for a brother from my past with whom I can reconnect. This fall I had the opportunity to re-connect with two younger brothers who I first met in their freshmen years. The first served as High Alpha of our chapter during a turbulent time and he is now in his second year of graduate school. The second was a member at another chapter who I met while serving as High Pi of his chapter. He is now beginning his career.

During their college years, I had the opportunity to watch them grow and mature as brothers and leaders. Over the years, I’ve helped them wrestle with difficult decisions. I’ve shared in their triumphs. Spending time with both and getting caught up was a wonderful way to spend an evening.

While I may be some years older than both of them, I have learned that the miracle of brotherhood is timeless and has no age limit. I was reminded of that fact last April when my chapter “roasted” our High Pi. A brother who has served as High Pi for 42 years this February! He has been one of my inspirations for a life-time of service. But as he has taught me, and as I’ve learned for myself, the greatest satisfaction and reward comes when you get a chance to see what kind of life a young brother starts living.

Continuing to stay involved in Lambda Chi Alpha after graduation is not easy for everyone. I have been blessed with the time to stay involved. For me, Lambda Chi Alpha was not a 4 year experience - it has been a lifetime experience. A wonderful return on the investment of time! You may want to give it a try. There are plenty of chapters in need of a High Pi or alumni advisor.
